Light is Right
4Nov2009 Filed under: Mind & Soul Author: Tania L. BretonIf you thought light-skinned people went out of style, well I’m here to tell you, “We’re baaaaack!” LOL.
Disclaimer: I have nothing against brown or dark skinned folk. In fact, my father and brother are both dark chocolate.
But I digress.
I have gotten a lot of flack from a lot of people because they honestly believe that I get away with a lot because I’m light. WRONG!
Let’s explore.
Several times in a day I get offered random things from random people. Is it because I’m light skinned? Hmmm.
I was out one night with one of my darker-skinned friends. She was a little upset because throughout the night, I was offered drinks from various guys.
But I ask you this, am I offered these things merely because of the complexion of my skin? Or could it be that when I flash these pearly whites, twinkle my hazel eyes, walk by with confidence, leave the aroma of my Dolce and Gabbana perfume on my trail, and let my swag speak for itself, that I’m just simply irresistible?
No, I am NOT conceited. I am confident.
Confident in the fact that I don’t NEED a man. I just want one. (Sometimes, lol) Confident that I don’t WANT attention, but I still get it. Confident that I know I have a lot of great qualities to work with.
So I leave you with these questions:
Do you think that lighter-skinned people get more attention or leeway in life? Or is it just the swag of the individual?
For me, light or dark, redboned or yellow, I let my personality speak for itself. I can pretty much walk in a room and light it up!
No pun intended, by the way.

LOL! Love this! Okay. So I’m definitely going to say it is not the skin tone… it is confidence, attitude, your overall presence…and of course it doesn’t hurt to be attractive!
In the humble opinion of a brown-skinned female

Im not so sure which it is. I consider myself a confident dark skinned woman and proud of my features and unique look. but I myself even look at light skin women and admire their look as well. Each and every woman receives some sort of extra attention from the opposite sex. But it depends on what that man’s type of woman is.
Any woman that displays her positive assets in a confident tasteful way will always get the attention and there’s nothing wrong with that. If your friends can see or accept that then maybe they need to look within themselves and find their fierceness.

As a lighter sister, I admire women of all complexions and truly believe it is the individuals’ aura that determines the level of attention they get. As my older sister would always say to me, “Walk into that room like you own the place!” And you know what? By the end of the night, most people will probably believe I do!

The whole light skinned thing will always be a big debate! It is something we will never escape. But you prolly get away with murder because its hard to punish the beautiful Hazel eyes. I for one feel that since I’m representing the dark side I might as well boast for them too! Naomi Campbell, enough said!!! We have alot of attractive people on both side of the fence both light and dark! But the fact remains the same, that people with a caramel complexion will always that Je ne sais qoi about them!

As your dark twin, it’s who we are that gets all that…..we exude confidence and that matters and shows….also that Dolce & Gabanna (the one) is a definite head turner.
