800-Thousand People Have Cut the Cord in the U.S.

April 30, 2010 Tech World 2 Comments

Eight hundred thousand people have decided to leave their cable subscriptions alone and totally rely on the web to watch television. This is according to a report by the Covergence Consulting Group. This story has turned up on yahoo, tech crunch, and msn.

People have been turning to free alternatives to watch television shows like hulu.com, fancast.com, and clicker.com (my fav!). Even alternative subscription services such as netflix.com, appletvm and amazon vod have gained momentum in subscribers over the past year.

The “cord cutters” only represent a small number of cable subscribers compared to the whopping 84 billion of television subscribers between cable and satellite put together.  But, it’s enough to get their attention.

If you’re not part of the “cord cutter” community and are wondering where to start, just go to some of the sites listed above: Hulu.com or clicker.com.

Ovguide.com is a web portal for television shows and movies alike (please make sure your virus software is up to date before viewing).

The number of “cord cutters” is estimated to go up to 1.6 million by next year.
