What is There to Do this Weekend?
When was the last time that you took some time out for yourself? I mean time for yourself where there were no kids involved, no phone calls, conference calls, etc. If you took longer than five seconds to answer, keep reading.
With the slumping economy, I thought I’d help you, help yourself.
TimeOut New York has a long laundry list of ”Things to do”. So I compiled a short list that you can check out over the weekend where you won’t have to break the bank.
Here a few things that are happening around town for under $15. Enjoy!
Laurie Beechman Theater at the West Bank Café
407 W 42nd St (between Ninth and Tenth Aves, downstairs), Midtown West
This open-mike musical-theater night gives a chance to anyone with a song in his or her heart and, ideally, a few drinks in his or her gut. Mischievous MC Brandon Cutrell often seems like a creature of pure bounce; Gabrielle Stravelli and Becca Johnson lend vocal support, with the proficient Ray Fellman at the keys.

Santos Party House
100 Lafayette St (at Walker St) , Tribeca
Amanda Blank looks fondly upon the ’80s, with spare beats and a voice befitting her surname. Her best songs touch on fantasy, whether voicing slogans never uttered in real life or simply positioning herself as a pop diva—the one dream that seems to give even Blank an emotional charge.
It starts tonite at 7pm. Tickets are $14 per person.

165 W 65th St (between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave) , Upper West Side
Fri 29–Tue 2, showtimes vary $7–$11. Dance on Camera returns to Walter Reade Theater with its annual festival, a collaboration between the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Dance Films Association.
